Sherry Anklam Memorial Award Donates to NEW STEM Programs

Posted on Posted in Uncategorized

NEW AITP has been hosting the Sherry Anklam Memorial Golf Outing for over 40 years in support of IT education in Northeast Wisconsin. Over the years students have applied to the Sherry Anklam Memorial Scholarship Award, but this year, we felt we’d like to share the wealth.

There has been a large push across the IT industry to encourage students to take part in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) programs. These programs engage young kids and teens to learn about technology in hopes of them someday joining the workforce in those careers.

NEW AITP has selected two deserving STEM programs in Northeast Wisconsin to be the recipients of a donation from the Sherry Anklam Memorial Fund. Each organization will receive $1250 to put towards their programs to make a difference in the next generation of IT professionals. Read more about the selected organizations below.

The Carrot Project  thecarrotp

The Carrot Project is a nonprofit education center focused on advancing opportunities for children within our community through educational experiences. They feel that children are in need of collaborative resources in order to achieve the most out of their education. They are dedicated to finding ways to help children learn through traditional and non-traditional classrooms.

The Carrot Project offers two technology programs: WIT4Girls and a Hacker High School Program. WIT4Girls offers free classes for young, enthusiastic tech savvy girls (age 5th – 12th grade) to show them the possibilities of a career in IT. Students build a connect with local IT Professional mentors to learn from those already in the industry.

The Hacker High School Program helps teens to learn cyber security and critical Internet skills. These are lessons that challenge teens to be as resourceful and creative as hackers with topics like safe Internet use, web privacy, online research techniques, network security, and even dealing with cyber-bullies.
